Last night, Friday 25th May, I went to watch and support my new favourite rap duo, Younited Kings, at the ninth instalment of poetry, spoken word and live music event Chronicles of a Griot, hosted by the rather unique Poet Ivy.

After a brilliant performance, the Kings and I went outside round the back of the venue for an extremely professional interview, recorded on my BlackBerry. Oh, and we got an exclusive freestyle from a rapper who prefers to remain anonymous as of now, but he goes by the alias Unknown Element.

So without further ado, here’s the interview (some of us* were under the influence, don’t be put off by the slurring).
(yes, I know you can’t see anything on the vid. it was dark. just lay back & listen.)

The video to Lovely (below) is being recorded on Wednesday 30th May in South London. The Younited Kings need some lovely ladies to feature, so if you’re interested and available, Tweet them and let them know.

*ok, just me.

With substance in abundance, humour and wit, crazy punch lines and abstract metaphors far beyond their years, South London based Younited Kings are swiftly catching the ears of many. In the past few weeks, this rap duo have gone from being relatively unknown to headlining poetry and spoken word events such as ‘Chronicles of a Griot’ alongside Suli Breaks and Poet Ivy. Dealing their first card, taking a giant leap into this overly saturated market where real conscious lyrical and socially minded talent often goes overlooked, show your appreciation and acknowledge the reign for the Younited Kings by downloading their debut EP Collective Identity. Their sovereignty has only just begun.
