The BBC Music Sound longlist showcases exciting and innovative rising stars.

The 2018 BBC Music Sound of 2018 longlist has been revealed – 16 music artists that are tipped to crash the big stage next year. Amongst this list and representing the Urban scene are Not3s, Yxng Bane &IAMDDB, who’s been unbelievable this year.

Not3s is the recent Rated awards ‘Best Breakthrough Act’ winner, Yxng Bane is on one of the biggest track to drop this year ‘Bestie’ – a track that saw Bane deliver the infectious hook on single with Yungen. For IAMDDB, it has been an awesome year for her, everything she drops just becomes an instant hit. An elastic flow that will leave you wanting more. Just so you know, she labels her style ‘Urban Jazz’ and the whole scene is routing for her heavily.

Not3s
Not3s’ debut single, Addison Lee, was a cult smash at the start of 2017 – its delightfully daft lyric about hailing a cab for a “peng ting called Madison” was even tweeted by Louis Theroux. But the Hackney-born rapper is more than a one-hit wonder, thanks to an agenda-setting mix of afro, bashment, dancehall, and hip-hop… and everything in between.

His unusual stage name is a reference to three types of note: money, music and “take note of me”.

Yxng Bane
Signed to Tinie Tempah’s Disturbing London label, Yxng Bane shot to attention this year with a dancehall remix of Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You, along with his own single Rihanna (key lyric: “You know you’re bad like Rihanna”.)

The 21-year-old rapper, who took his name from Tom Hardy’s character in the Batman film The Dark Knight Rises, also featured on Drake’s More Life mixtape – cementing his status as one of London’s most exciting new talents.

IAMDDB

Fusing soulful vocals with trap beats, IAMDDB is Manchester’s latest musical export.

Aged 21, her chilled-out, home-made videos have marked her out as one of the UK’s most relatable new singers, while her music reflects her love of jazz.

Oh, and that stage name is short for I Am Diana DeBrito.

The BBC Music has been ever supportive of the talents emerging from the urban scene and last year saw the likes of AJ Tracey, Dave, Stefflon Don and Nadia Rose make the 2017 longlist.

The Top 5 will be revealed on BBC Radio 1 from Monday 8th January 2018.
