Leicester representative JB might be relatively new to the UK Rap scene but his name is starting to ring alarm bells all across the UK and he has proved his lyrical ability on various media platforms such as: Link Up TV, P110 and Pressplay.

JB is the talk of the town in his city and represented his hometown in the Leicester anthem ‘LC’, which was his first official track. Fast forward to 2015 and JB has been the hottest prospect hailing from the East Midlands putting Leicester on the map. Since then, the takeover has been evident as he has collaborated with a few big names from London including: Pablo SN1, Big Tobz and Reeko Squeeze. With these co-signs it is evident that JB has a lot to offer the UK Rap scene.

This year has been a hectic year for JB and his work rate has been nothing short of impressive. With the release of his introductory EP ‘The XXX  XXXX’ Chronicles’ is this the EP that will showcase the talent of JB and introduce him to a wider audience?

The three track EP is presented in three parts and proves to be a display of JB’s originality as each track is something distinct and different.  The EP does not have any features and focuses solely on JB and the direction of the EP.

The EP begins with Part I entitled “Get High” which has accumulated over 40,000 views on Link Up TV. The track is all about energy and the bass bumping production complemented with the lyrics makes this an instant favourite. The track is new and refreshing for UK Rap and JB brings a new aura with his music. The monotone of the chorus is catchy and adds a unique twist to the track.

Part II “My Niggas” is a track which really demonstrates JB’s ability to flow. JB switches up his style on this track and the track is more upbeat and fast paced. The wordplay in JB’s lyrics can easily fly over your head but this is one of the things that make JB a skilled artist in his own right.

The final track on the EP Part III “Fuego” stood out the most in the EP for the Spanish inspired production, but JB makes the track his own and keeps the listener engaged with the boastful demeanour in his lyrics and the inventive concept of the track. “Fuego” proves to be an explosion of beats and bars and gives us an overall impression of JB’s versatility in his music.

JB has produced a quality EP that stands out for its creativity, style and structure. ‘The XXX  XXXX’ Chronicles’ does not sound like the repetitive sound you hear often in UK Rap. It is a more diverse form of UK Rap, which will have a lasting impression. The EP will leave you wanting to hear more which can always be considered a good thing.

JB has set the bar high with ‘The XXX  XXXX’ Chronicles’ and gave us a glimpse of what he can bring to the table. It is essential that we hear more from this upcoming artist, but the EP is definitely a stepping stone for JB to prove that he is the artist everyone should be keeping their eyes on.
