Review: Rising British Songstress Ava Lily Shares Debut EP ‘Higher Love’

Posing as an artist to watch within the luscious realm of British R&B, Ava Lily is paving a lane of her own. Through weaving her luxurious and sumptuous vocals in with a blend of both Lo-Fi and R&B instrumentals, the rising songstress recently returned to the game earlier this year and has since caught the eyes of many! Over the last few years, the Bristol-native has been perfecting her craft as an artist and has even lent her unquestionable song-writing ability to the likes of Emeli Sande, James Arthur and ZAYN.

Introducing the EP with the title track “Higher Love”, Ava Lily’s vocals take centre stage in this one. Pushing the emphasis on finally being able to move on from a relationship in which she felt she had outgrown; the songstress navigates her connection with a higher power as she embarks on her journey with self-love. Nestled in an up-beat yet atmospheric backdrop, Ava Lily’s honey-like vocals leave you wanting more. Swiftly transitioning into the laid-back and Lo-Fi vibrations of “Closure”, the ascending star explores the motions of the relationship, as tempting as it may seem to want to spend one more night with her ex-lover before completely cutting ties, Ava Lily longed to find security in knowing he was alone so she didn’t feel like the only one that was suffering. Woven in a minimalist production, her luxurious and soothing vocals create an emotionally charged feeling that is carried throughout.

Stepping into the blissful sounds of “Blameless”, this was the first track to be released from the project. كيفية لعب بينجو Layered over an Alternative R&B instrumental, this empowered offering is enriched with a seductive and sensual feel as Ava Lily comes to the realisation that she no longer needs her ex-lover; “I’ve been there, I’ve done that, I know you, I know what your kiss tastes like / I just want to spend the night alone /  Out of sight, out of mind” , she sings effortlessly. Closing out the EP with an all-new track titled, “Remind Me”, the songstress confronts her past mistakes in this vulnerable and honest sultry cut. Layered over a slightly more up-beat and groove-ridden backdrop, Ava Lily has bared all from start to finish throughout this flawless body of work.
