How long have you been making music and who, or what, was the main influence?
I have been making music now for two years. My main influence is my Dad who used to be a singer back in the day. He keeps me focused and motivated for me to achieve my dream.
For those of us who haven’t yet heard your music, how would you describe it?
Expect clever word play and skilled lyricism met with a smooth flow. You will experience real emotion and story telling drawn from real life experiences. Creativity that exists within normality, which is delivered over hip hop and R&B beats.
What did you hope to portray with Smooth? What would you describe as its mission statement?
What I hope Smooth portrays is that I am now established more as an artist, and taking it very seriously. It should show a step in the right direction with a glimmer of what’s to come. The statement of the mixtape is that I’m on the rise and I have developed and progressed a whole lot from my last mixtape which released not so long ago in December. Smooth should show the hard work I’ve put into developing my craft. The reception has been good so far. Many of the people that heard my first mixtape cant believe the development. It’s great that it’s reaching a wider audience so keep downloading, listening and sharing if you feel what I’m doing.
What has been your proudest accomplishment to date?
My proudest moment so far has got to be a show I did not so long ago; coming off stage from performing to an audience that doesn’t listen to this genre of music and have them singing along with the hooks was amazing. Having that crowd go from stern looks to joyful faces tops it so far for me.
Do you play any instruments or dabble in production at all?
Lyricism and rapping are my main outputs and I plan to focus on those until I have them mastered.
Who is your dream collaborative partner, dead or alive?
Very hard question! Keeping it UK I’d love to collaborate with Chip, internationally it’d be Drake or Logic.
Where do you expect to see yourself in five years’ time?
I expect to see myself with a massive fan base, selling out shows and working on my albums, showing the world my talent and distributing my music everywhere!
Do you think it’s more difficult for artists based outside of London to become established in the ‘urban’ scene?
I strongly believe it is! There are way less opportunities in every aspect it’s crazy! The little opportunities that we do have, you have to fight amongst the MASSES to get. It does bother me. I’m going to keep kicking down doors until hinges will just fall off when I see them.
What do you have lined up for us in the next year?
I have no dates confirmed yet but more live shows over the summer and a next mixtape. That will not again just only show development but I will aim to make it a classic – something that all can enjoy.
