London’s very own Daniel Kaluuya took home the gold as he won best supporting actor for his performance as Black Panthers leader Fred Hampton in Judas and the Black Messiah.

Becoming the first Black Briton to win the golden statue for acting in its 93 year history he paid tribute to Hampton saying:

“What a man. How blessed we are that we live in a lifetime where he existed,” the actor said. “I am humbled to be nominated for portraying a man whose principles I deeply respect and for guiding me to walk in his footsteps.”

He also paid tribute to his mum saying, “[she]gave me my factory settings so I can stand at my fullest height” before hilariously telling millions, “My mum met my dad, they had sex, it’s amazing. I’m here. I’m so happy to be alive so I’m going to celebrate that tonight.”
