Getting Acquainted with DOLLER

Describing his musical style as original and authentic, and naming a wide variety of musical influences such as Rick Ross, Vybz Cartel and even his dad, recording artist Doller knows exactly what he wants and how to reach his goals.

As founder and creative director of clothing brand Go Getters, the 26 year old is a huge advocate of positivity, proactiveness and ‘go getting’ what you want.

We had a chat with Doller following the release of his latest mixtape From A Hustler 2 My Hustlers Vol.2 to find out more about the man behind the music (and the clothing line).

GEORGINA: Hi Doller. For those of us not in the know, can you tell us a bit about yourself?

DOLLER: I’m a 26 year old recording artist, musician, entertainer and entrepreneur. I’m also the founder and creative director of clothing line Go Getters. I’m from north London, but to be more specific Edmonton N9. I now reside in Bow as I’ve been back and forth throughout my whole life.

G: How would you describe your music style to someone who’s never heard you before?

D: It’s original and authentic. My music holds dynamic values with an up lifting essence while keeping it raw and sincere. You can always hear my influences running through out it which are grime, hip-hop and dancehall.

G: What is the concept behind the new mixtape? What has the reaction been like so far?

D: The only concept is that I created the mixtape to inspire the proactive mind. We call it the ‘Go Getter theory’. It’s designed strictly for an audience that likes the music uncut. It’s exactly what they want to hear – for my peers to play in their car after Future, Jeezy, Rick Ross, those artists. I also want to spark interest and awareness in my new album 49th Law of Power – Power of the Doller. The reaction has been brilliant so far, it’s hitting the ears I wanted to hit, sparking the exact emotion I wanted to spark out of people .

G: Who would be your top 3 dream collaboration partners, rapper, singer or producer, dead or alive – and why?

D: Biggie, Vybz Kartel and Michael Jackson. I truly believe we could make a very interesting song or hit. I would love to put 50 Cent in there too…

G: Did you have any specific inspirations when growing up which caused you to want to go into music?

D: My inspirations while growing up were my uncle and dad. My uncle Flash used to deejay – he was a dancehall MC. My dad, Kush Tafari, is a roots and reggae singer. My uncle Mikey used to have a sound system too. This all helped my love for music. Crews like NASTY made me believe it’s possible and I have always been a massive fan of Wiley.

G: What has been your biggest challenge so far in your musical career and how has it helped you grow and improve?

D: My biggest challenge was taking and building my brand outside of Edmonton. Before me or my childhood crew, this was never done before. It’s always been a reminder to never stop working to where you want to get to. You just have to have belief and faith, and it will happen.

G: What can we expect from you in the next five years?

D: I want a successful record label, predominant clothing ranges, tours, charting, incredible music, classic albums and power moves!
