It is of my opinion that this emcee is the second most overlooked emcee of all time and this is due to being part of a group. However this is not a valid reason to omit him from the conversation of best emcees of all time – look at how revered Andre 3000 is.

Another reason he gets overlooked is because of the decline of gangster rap or hardcore rap in favour of its more palatable form to the populous. Nevertheless, categorising him simply as that sort of rapper is a disservice, as Prodigy has released and been a pioneer in many senses of politically tinted conscious or conspiratorial hip-hop, depending on your world view, since his solo debut classic H.N.I.C and the follow up H.N.I.C pt 2 in addition to Product of the 80s. However, even when being political or socially aware, he comes across as informative rather than condescending or overbearing – a feat in itself that many could learn from. When you take this into account with his ability to write street bangers and work with Mobb Deep, Prodigy is one of the most rounded emcees.
