This year, the annual Mercury Prize have included a new genre of artists up for nomination.

Both Kano and Skepta are in the running for the Mercury Prize due to their respective albums ‘Konnichiwa’ and ‘Made in The Manor’.

The veterans are in it for Mercury Prize Album of The Year and are in competition with the late singer David Bowie.

This is the time of celebration since we will have two grime veterans shortlisted for the prestigious prize.

This year will mark the Mercury Prize’s 25th anniversary and will feature Jarvis Cocker, Naughty Boy, Kate Tempest and many more including critics and music industry experts.

The basis of the judging will be that music lovers will get the chance to vote between the 12 album shortlist via an online poll. The most popular will be joining five other finalists picked by the judges.

The winner will be announced at The Mercury Prize venue in London, Hammersmith Apollo on September 15. The six finalists will perform before a ‘special, one-off’ collaboration to mark the prize’s 25th anniversary.
