Once again it seems the North side of the Thames is no stranger to emerging talent as 23 year old Richard Adefeye is determined to work hard and make his very musical aspirations become that sought for reality. Trendz, as he is known to by his mates who also happen to be his team members in the ever developing collective entitled MIM; which I am informed carries a numerous amount of abbreviations such as; Money Is the Motive, Miles In Minutes, Millionaires In the Making and so forth is the second member I have featured from the collective after Skinny Malone. After being in and out of prison since the age of 18 it was his most recent experience behind bars which had finally tipped him over the edge and opened his eyes to becoming a serious contender in the music scene. With 5 years of musical graft under his belt Trendz is all too familiar with the evolution of the scene and after starting off in the game as a grime artist he did what many have done before him and made that transition to a rapper coinciding with what’s relevant at the moment.

The video I picked to portray Trendz’ talents is his latest freestyle to date although it was recorded last year, (however in saying that last year was pretty much yesterday so that point somewhat loses its connotations of the track seeming to be an old one) anyway I was drawn to this freestyle in particular for its subtext. I liked the way the imagery played a part in the message which is clearly being conveyed that hard work alongside immense talent of course is a prior key in obtaining success within music as we have seen through an ample amount of examples i.e. Wretch 32, Tinie Tempah. Secondly another point I noticed about this rapper that will differentiate from many out there is his content after incarceration in prison…

I’m proof that dreams do come true, work hard and you might just come through…

I move p’s you move keys, you need cats I need beats, we both came off of the same streets, we both woke up from the same sleep…

Trendz seems to scream passion through his songs rather than pain which most rappers seem to be about. Being locked up and away from the world watching the scene develop from what was his home for 2 years had only invoked a sense of determination rather than bitterness to the world. I’ve always said I am very fond of ‘crack music’ but at the same I am impartial when it comes to artists wanting to stand outside the box and remove that cliché label that surrounds them but only if it works in their favour and it does indeed work for Trendz.

With this catchy original beat and motivating content to strive for what you believing in, I can only sit and wait patiently to hear what the upcoming mixtape Get Rich Or Die Rhyming will have in store for us.
