Inside Meekz’ Sold Out London Show At O2 Islington – ‘Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Tour’
9 Mar 2023
Meekz is undoubtedly one of the hottest names in the industry right now; Having some of the biggest tracks in recent rap culture such as ‘Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop’ and ‘Like Me’, the Gorton raised rapper has seen himself collaborate with heavy International hitters Dave and Central Cee. At the end of February, the northern native embarked on his UK leg of his European tour, touching down in his home city Manchester, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and London. We were fortunate enough to witness the greatness for ourselves here at Mixtape Madness, and here’s what went down inside…
Selling out the O2 Academy Islington in a matter of seconds when the tour tickets went live at the latter stages of last year, there was an incredible sense off anticipation and excitement in the build up to the event. The crowd gathered in their numbers outside the venue and poured into the building with great optimism for the night ahead. Taking to the stage at an earlier time of around 8:30, Meekz played through a lengthly set that included performances of his ‘Hoods Hottest’ and ‘Respect The Come Up’ as well as many others from his newest project entitled the latter.
What many may not have expected, or may have caught them by surprise, is the sheer passion and energy Meekz brought to his live performance. In what has also been documented in many TikTok’s that have gone viral and done rounds on social media, Meekz visible raw enthusiasm was tangible. Fully taking advantage of the size of the venue with his stage presence and charisma, Meekz provided a steady argument as to why he should be considered as one of the best live performers in the UK scene. A born performer, thriving in his natural element.
Subject to many outfit changes throughout the show, Meekz went off stage to allow some special guests to come through half way through the set. Afro-swing sensations NSG came through to perform OT Bop and Unruly, before the highly respected Unknown T came through to perform ‘Fresh Home’ and ‘Homerton B’ – charging the crowd up with both of their respectively iconic tracks.
Playing through the rest of his newest project after his time off stage. Meekz closed the set with his individual verses and hook to ‘Fresh Out The Bank’ and ‘Don’t Like Drill’, Meekz throughout the set reinforced himself as one of the coldest studio and live artists in the game, and the crowd absolutely loved it. A great event, a great performance, a great artist. Next time Meekz tours, make sure not to miss it!
