British-Nigerian singer-songwriter Gabzy makes a bold return with his highly anticipated 6-track EP, ‘It’s Not You, It’s Summer’ — an immersive, seasonally themed experience drawn from real-life, released via EMPIRE.
This sun-drenched project blends Gabzy’s signature sultry vocals with rich, textured melodies, cementing his place as a leading voice in the UK’s R&B, Alté, and Afro-fusion scenes.
He recently lit up AfroNation, giving fans an early taste of the EP, and is now set to embark on a worldwide tour with headline dates across Uganda, Zambia, Kenya, and multiple cities across the UK, Europe, and North America.
Opening track “New Body” sets the tone for the EP, a vibrant ode to summer joy and carefree energy, Gabzy is taking this new chapter to the global stage. From there, the EP blooms into its euphoric core with “So Much Sense”, a feel-good link-up with Fireboy DML that blends cheeky lyricism with groove-led polish, produced by AOD and The Elements.
The tempo picks up with “So Easy,” co-produced by TSB and AOD, bringing Afro-house to the forefront, channelling Ibiza sunrise energy with clear nods to South African sounds. Inspired by Dlala Thukzin’s “iPlan,” it proves Gabzy’s ear isn’t just global, it’s ahead.
But it’s not all dancefloor, “After Summer”, stripped down to subtle drums and delicate strings, captures the emotional comedown from a season lived in the moment. And final track “Special”, produced by Lekaa Beats and featuring Victony, is a dreamy, saxophone-laced ballad about fleeting summer romance, with a soft back-and-forth between both artists.
Beyond the music, the EP carries emotional and cultural weight. It’s a confident leap forward, not just a soundtrack for summer, but a body of work destined for playlists and stages from London to Lagos to Los Angeles.
