A compelling new voice in the UK alternative soul scene, Flo Fields has arrived with her debut single “Dependency”, a slow-burning, soul-infused reflection on emotional entanglement and the return to selfhood. Blending soul, jazz, and raw authenticity, Flo’s music emerges from a place of introspection and a lifelong curiosity about human emotion.

Written on a windswept beach in Portugal during a moment of personal reckoning, “Dependency” is as atmospheric as its origins suggest. “The idea came out of a moment of struggle,” Flo shares. “It’s about the ugly and uncomfortable realisation of co-dependency in a relationship and the journey back to the wholeness of self.”

The track opens with lo-fi guitar arpeggios and clean, minimal percussion, creating a warm yet wistful backdrop. Flo’s voice glides in – jazzy, unguarded, and emotionally resonant – as she delivers: “Being faced with my dependency is not the sweetest taste…”

Her vocal delivery is both technically precise and emotionally vulnerable, floating between rich harmonies and moments of silence that give the lyrics room to breathe. From heartbreak to healing, the song’s arrangement supports a gentle, cathartic narrative, with lines like: “I gave my power away… I had to decide when it was time to cut the ties.” Closing with lush textures and the affirmation “You are you and I, I am,” Flo offers a final note of clarity and peace.
