Girls I Rate – a global creative movement creating opportunities for women across music and the creative industries – joined forces with Nando’s to spotlight the next wave of Caribbean women in music, taking over a London location for an invite-only night of live music, DJs, food and Caribbean culture.
Curated by Grammy-nominated songwriter and Girls I Rate founder Carla Marie Williams MBE, the event – LOCKED IN with Madison B – brought together rising artists, DJs and creatives alongside names from across music, entertainment and culture.
Hosted by Bermuda-born, London-based artist Madison B, the night saw Madison debut her brand-new track ‘Back It Up’ live, while Monifa Goss delivered an a cappella rendition of Pressure’s Jamaican reggae classic ‘Love and Affection’ before flipping ‘Spend It’ over Jamaican hit riddim WYFL.
Soca powerhouse The SunDivas brought the Caribbean energy with a live performance of their new anthem ‘No Gal’, and on the decks DJ EMZ kept the crowd pumping, DJ Ambra Andela switched things up with mixes crossing Amapiano, Dancehall and Bouyon, while DJ Versatile came through with the R&B classics.
Monifa Goss stated:
“I loved every bit of this [Girls I Rate event], something so feminine-centred, empowering, and iconic. The performances contributed to an incredible energy and vibe, an experience filled with women celebrating women is something I’ll always cherish.”
