North London rap icon Headie One has dropped his highly anticipated new mixtape, ‘Monday Marathon Music’.
‘Monday Marathon Music’ marks Headie One’s first full project since 2024’s ‘The Last One’. Across its 10 tracks, the North London rapper takes listeners through different chapters of his journey, pairing the storytelling and intensity that have made him one of British rap’s defining voices with a bold evolution in sound. While remaining true to his roots, ‘Monday Marathon Music’ sees Headie move beyond the confines of drill, embracing darker trap production, cinematic basslines and melodic influences without compromising the authenticity at the core of his music.
Introduced by lead single ‘Turnt To A Target’, the project explores the realities of success, resilience, longevity and the pressures that come with life in the spotlight. The phrase “It’s Marathon Music” serves as the mixtape’s mission statement, reflecting Headie’s belief in endurance over instant success, and the mindset required to stay at the top.
Speaking on the lead single Headie said
“Turnt To A Target is a song about how, along the journey of being a musician and building popularity, you can turn into a target in all kinds of ways… a target of attention, a target of fans, a target for the haters, etc. But we have to rise above and keep pushing.”
The release follows Headie’s exclusive fan event earlier this summer, where he invited fans and content creators into the studio to witness the making of ‘Monday Marathon Music’. The intimate session saw the mixtape artwork unveiled while Headie took live feedback as he recorded and completed several tracks, offering a rare insight into his creative process.
