An unmistakeable presence in our culture, actor and musician Idris Elba has released a new single, ‘Knives Down’, which aims to combat youth violence within the United Kingdom. The track has been accomapnied by a powerful music video directed by MD Films.

Produced by Fraser T Smith and FaNaTix, Elba implores the UK Government to take action against the rise of knife crime within the UK. The music video also features an image of Ronan Kanda, who was killed in 2022 due to a case of mistaken identity.

Speaking on the track and the message behind it, Elba states:

“I can’t stay silent as more young lives are lost to these brutal and heartless crimes. As school returns, too many young people will not be joining their classmates and too many grieving families have lost a young person they love in recent years. Young people are our future, their potential deserves to be met, not taken away by violence.”

The track is part of a campaign called ‘Don’t Stop Your Future’, which aims to bring youth violence to the top of the political agenda.
