Jeshi Drops Hypnotic New Single ‘SCUMBAG’ Ahead of Sophomore Album ‘AIRBAG WOKE ME UP’
16 Jan 2025
London-based artist Jeshi continues to push creative boundaries with the release of his latest single ‘SCUMBAG’. Produced by JD. REID, the track captures the frenetic energy of city life, blending pulsating rhythms with a nostalgic nod to UK grime through a subtle sample of Dizzee Rascal’s ‘Stand Up Tall’. The lyrics delve into themes of youthful recklessness and adolescent apathy, adding an emotional edge to the hypnotic soundscape.
‘SCUMBAG’ arrives as one of the final previews of Jeshi’s highly anticipated sophomore album, AIRBAG WOKE ME UP. The single is accompanied by an impeccable visual directed by frequent collaborator Will Dohrn, who brings the album’s artwork to life in stunning detail.
Jeshi’s second album builds on his signature dynamism, capturing moments that ignite reactions and provoke conversations. “I want to make things that have intent and feel like statements,” Jeshi explains. The versatility of his voice—a hallmark of his artistry—takes centre stage throughout the album. “On, Universal Credit, my voice was used in one way, whereas on this it’s used in ten ways,” he adds.
The sentiment behind ‘SCUMBAG’ encapsulates the essence of the album. “It’s a song about nostalgia, looking back at the madness of being young, running around and getting up to no good,” Jeshi shares. “It’s something I miss a lot—things being simpler and not having to care about everything as much.”
‘SCUMBAG’ follows Jeshi’s previous single ‘SAINT OR SINNER’ which featured Leicester rapper Sainté, further showcasing his knack for collaboration and genre-blurring artistry. His latest work is deeply influenced by the vibrant energy of his worldwide stage performances, with, AIRBAG WOKE ME UP, promising a collection of songs that smash through moods and tempos like kids on dodgem cars.
Jeshi is set to embark on his biggest tour yet, kicking off in February and visiting major cities across Europe, including Oslo, Copenhagen, Berlin, Brussels, Paris, and Amsterdam, before returning to the UK. The tour will culminate in a homecoming show at Village Underground in London, promising an electrifying finale.
Tickets for the tour are available now, here, and fans can expect Jeshi’s live-wire energy and dynamic artistry to shine on stage.
With ‘SCUMBAG’ and, AIRBAG WOKE ME UP, Jeshi continues to solidify his position as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary music—an artist unafraid to experiment, provoke, and captivate.
