Kamal. has come through with a music video for his fan favourite track, ‘crowded places’, taken from his recent EP ‘so here you are, drowning’. The video was shot in Tokyo by Alistair McVeigh and Samuel Adjaye, making the bustle of the Japanese city the perfect backdrop for the subject matter of the track.

Kamal. has enjoyed a hugely successful start to his career, already amassing over 300 million streams and recently featuring on Central Cee and Dave’s collaborative project ‘Split Decision’. His raw lyricism and emotive vocals set him apart from his peers, propelling the artist to potential superstardom.

Speaking on the music video, Kamal. said:

“crowded places” is a song I wrote about feeling lonely even in the busiest of places. When, regardless of all the surrounding noise, you shut yourself inside your head. Tokyo is one of the busiest cities in the world, but there is a lot of conversation about isolation, and seclusion within the younger population, so it made a lot of sense to shoot the video there.

A lot of the video is shot in Shibuya crossing, the busiest crossing in the world, so that was ironically pretty anxiety inducing. But after we wrapped we played a great festival show in Yokohama and I was reminded that equally there’s a real intimacy that can be found in crowds.”

There is no doubt that the thought and attention to detail that went into this visual is demonstrative of Kamal. as an artist. The north west Londoner will hope to cement himself as the voice of his generation as he continues to evolve, but as of now Kamal. is very much in the driving seat when it comes to his creative vision.
