One of the hottest prospects in UK music, Jamaican-born but Birmingham Newtown-raised Marnz Malone is one of the best authentic talents to the UK rap scene has to offer right now.

Ahead of his forthcoming mixtape, which will be released in February, Marnz Malone has shared an introspectively, ‘ led new single, ‘I Hate January alongside moving cinematic visuals to accompany the instalment.

Centred around the increasing number of suicides in custody, the new offering is harnessed with great emotional depth, uncovering an issue that not only lacks significant awareness but he holds close to his heart. In a way, the single becomes a voice for those who don’t necessarily have one otherwise; from an exterior perspective in mainstream society, no information tends to be spread publicly about mental health in prison – it becomes a closed-off and typically stereotyped issue.

Cinematic visuals offer an insight into life through the eyes of two prisoners who are experiencing bad mental health episodes, leading to the first prisoner to take his life. Showing not only Marnz Malone’s emotional and introspective depth as an artist but also how his career has developed, being able to write something with such integrity and sentiment whilst offering a raw level of authenticity,

When asked about the release Marnz Malone commented, “January is naturally the most depressing time of the year. I wrote the verse speaking about things that make me depressed, being in Jail, losing my bredrin, growing up in poverty. I felt it was only right for the video to focus on depression in custody and how it can end with people taking their lives in this hopeless place”
