Rising London R&B artist Nolais has come through with his latest single, ‘Man Up’. The track explores the feelings of bottling up emotions and suffering in silence, and the effects these attitudes have on mental health.
Originally from Amsterdam and of Surinamese and Nigerian heritage, Nolais blends alternative and contemporary R&B in his music as well as introspective lyricism. Citing Bryson Tiller and Destin Conrad as musical influences, he has also lent his songwriting expertise to the likes of JayO, Jim Legxacy, and Summer Banton.
Speaking on the new release, the artist states:
““man up” is one of the most personal songs I’ve ever written. Inspired by my experience growing up with the expectation to “man up” and suppress emotion, the track explores the lasting impact of emotional neglect, generational conditioning, and the lack of emotional intelligence often modeled by fathers. It reflects the struggle of wanting to express vulnerability while feeling trapped by beliefs that equate emotion with weakness.”
