Odeal Drops “The Summer That Saved Me” Album
11 Jul 2025
MOBO Award-winning artist Odeal returns with The Summer That Saved Me album, a vibrant, deeply personal body of work that marks a defining moment in both his career and his life. Known for his seasonal approach to storytelling, this summer album is more than a time stamp; it’s a reclamation of freedom, expression, and identity.
Written in March, the project hosts 7-tracks and came about after Odeal scrapped two complete EPs in search of something that truly resonated. What he found was a moment of clarity sparked by finally receiving his British passport, a milestone that lifted years of travel restrictions and opened the door to a new kind of creative and personal movement. That sense of release you feel throughout every track.
The project opens with with Miami featuring Leon Thomas, setting a warm, sun-soaked tone, and re-igniting Odeal’s spark. From there, the album unfolds in Los Angeles, where Odeal transformed his apartment into a studio space, inviting producers and friends into a setting built on trust and spontaneity. That energy bleeds into tracks like My Heart, London Summers, and Standby, each one blurring genre lines between Afrobeats, soul, R&B, and Afro-Latin textures.
But what elevates The Summer That Saved Me is its emotional range. Odeal shifts easily from flirtatious and free (Patience) to raw and reflective (Deserving, Obis Interlude).
The closer, In The Chair, wraps up the project with elegance. A sensual, slowed-down moment, it echoes the project’s overarching themes of presence, intimacy, and return. There’s poetic weight in how the album ends, not with a bang, but with an exhale.
Speaking on the EP, Odeal says “This album was about reconnecting those pieces,” referring to the fragments of self scattered between cultures, countries, and moments. And that’s exactly what this project does. It doesn’t just celebrate a passport stamp. It’s about agency, joy, and global selfhood.
Odeal has always stood out from the crowd with his music, but here he cements his place as one of the most emotionally honest and genre-fluid artists coming out of the UK. This isn’t just a summer drop. It’s a testimony of the freedom he’s finally found.
