Prple Releases Self-Reflective Single ‘Misunderstood’

London-raised alternative R&B/soul artist Prple has released her latest single ‘Misunderstood’. The dark, reflective yet sensual track builds on her musical identity, setting her apart as a new underground artist to watch.

The single is the latest reflection of Prple‘s ongoing exploration of self-knowledge, growth and identity. ‘Misunderstood’ plays on the idea of becoming comfortable with having a multifaceted identity that often gets misunderstood. The lyrics express the pain of feeling unseen, yet coming to a realisation that understanding yourself is what truly matters.

‘I am ever evolving. If I am not, that’s stagnancy, and the only things that are stagnant are dead,’ Prple explains. ‘As I am peeling the layers of my beautifully complex identity, I expect to change. Change is the only thing guaranteed in this world, and people aren’t always comfortable with it, especially when it breaks the reality of the character they’ve created in their head. Sorry, not sorry.’

Self-acceptance and defiance is a key theme that permeates Prple’s discography. DGC (‘Don’t Get Comfortable’) is both the acronym and mantra behind her artistic philosophy, an ethos built around seeking discomfort on the path to growth and realising her highest potential. This thread ties ‘Misunderstood’ back to her earlier singles ‘Love Trap’ and ‘Runaway,’ both of which lean into that same introspective, self-reflective lyricism Prple has become known for.

‘I know I am not the only one who has felt like this,’ she says. ‘I hope it resonates and empowers the right person at the right time. Growth is uncomfortable and being perceived can be daunting, but not living your truth and finding yourself will always be the biggest regret.’
