Jianbo has been a breath of fresh air since re-emerging on the scene with a new found consistency at the start of this year. Since releasing “Chinatown Alley” and “Mongkok Madness” featuring Henry Wu this year, Jianbo has received huge support from the likes of London’s Evening Standard, Dummy Mag, Complex and many other platforms. And despite discography dating back to 2020, it seems that Jianbo is taking this year as his own. His debut EP “Yellow Peril” only proves that.

Innovating a signature sound consisting of elements of grime, hip hop and jazz with a mid-noughties inspired flow, Jianbo has the full package to appeal to a wide span of audience. Having spoken to the Chinese-Vietmanese-British rapper myself, I find it highly commendable that his main priority is representing his culture; a refreshing stance to have.

“Yellow Peril” is an excellent 5 track body of work including his first ever single dropped back in 2020 entitled “Shaolin”, as well as 2021’s “Jianbo Express”. Alongside recent drops “Chinatown Alley” and “Mongkok Madness”, new joint “Music or Money” features on the project. This is a refreshing laidback rap joint showcasing Jianbo’s deep tone over an ambient alternative rap beat, produced by Thieta.

If you like alternative rap with a raw grime element to it, and appreciate an innovative talent representing their routes and culture, then you’ll love this project. This is only the start. I’m confident that Jianbo will be on a continuous rise throughout the rest of this year and next. I’m excited for what is next on his journey – and if you don’t know, get to know.
