Ten years after Topper Top shook the system, Sir Spyro links back up with DEEP MEDi for their 20th anniversary with a brand new four track EP ‘2nd SQ’ and it honestly feels like perfect timing!

Spyro’s always been respected for his bass-driven grime sound, but on this project he leans fully into the low-end pressure. This is darker, weightier, more dubstep-focused territory built for big rigs, late hours and rooms where the walls sweat.

The title track “2ND SQ” wastes no time setting tone – snapping hats, heavyweight bass and a cold, industrial snare that cuts straight through the mix, definitely built for reload moments. Then “Be Afraid” strips things back into a tense, skeletal space, letting the atmosphere do the talking and giving off proper warehouse energy. “Diagonal” keeps things shadowy and hypnotic, while “Patch Bae” switches the flavour as it’s glitchy, playful and slightly nostalgic. Sharp, effective and full of substance.

There’s history behind this link up as well, as Spyro dropped his landmark anthem ‘Topper Top’ with the label on their 10th anniversary. Returning now for the 20th feels full-circle but still forward-facing:

“I’m very excited to work with DEEP MEDi again. I was buzzing to be releasing ‘Topper Top’ with them on their 10th anniversary and it’s even better to be back for their 20th.”

Outside the release itself, the energy around the project has been just as strong. On 5 February, Spyro held a listening party at Kindred, bringing out a wave of MCs including Manga Saint Hilare, Jo So Sick, N3, Killa P and Capo Lee among others. It wasn’t just a promo run, it was a proper grime scene link-up: bars getting shelled, artists connecting, and a reminder of how powerful and alive the culture still is when it’s in the room together. From pirate radio days to chart-shaping production credits, Spyro’s influence runs deep and 2nd SQ shows he’s not in legacy mode. This is active, restless, system-ready music. Dark, focused and built to hit.
