Stormzy Stays In R&B Bag With New Drop ‘Firebabe’
10 Nov 2022
Stormzy has returned with a new single, “Firebabe”, the second drop from his forthcoming album ‘This Is What I Mean.’
The new single follows last month’s “Hide & Seek“, and is accompanied by a video directed by Edem Wornoo. The sound is a continuation from his last release and gives us an insight into the toned down, intimate style that we might expect on his latest record. The track is produced by George Moore, and features additional production from PRGRSHN and tendai. The track also features additional vocals from Debbie, Sampha and Jacob Collier.
Stormzy says of the release, “Debbie, George [Moore] and I got in the studio together and it was the most beautiful moment. It was a session I’ll never forget, for the rest of my life. It was extremely special and everyone in the room understood that. We were making something that hopefully, God willing, lives forever. Something that has soul and feeling and it came from a really pure place. We took a truth and made some art from it.”
The single comes after the announcement that Stormzy will be playing a headline show at All Points East next year, as well as the birth of ‘Merky FC’. We can expect more surprises in the build up to ‘This Is What I Mean’.
