£3,000 For You To Buy An Electric Scooter & Ride The Train If You Give Up Your Car Under New Govt Plans

Motorists could receive up to £3,000 to replace their cars with greener modes of transportation. If you’re a driver in a built-up area with the most polluting cars you could be in line to receive public money or ‘credits’ if you do choose to switch.
Before taking the scheme nationwide the plan is to run a two year trial in Coventry starting this spring. The target are owners of diesel cars built prior to 2016 and petrol ones before 2006.
Trial participants will be given between £1,500 and £3,000 to spend on alternative transport such as electric scooters, cab fare, trains/buses and bikes. The West Midlands focused scheme will be funded by the £22million ‘future transport’ initiative.
Andy Street, the West Midlands mayor, said: “We have a number of candidates lined up in Coventry following a public appeal for volunteers last year and are putting processes in place to allow them to scrap their old cars in exchange for transport credits later this spring.”
