Another billionaire has announced plans to take a submarine to see the wreckage of the Titanic.

American real estate investor, Larry Connor, announced he’s building a new acrylic-hulled submersible that will be certified and rigorously tested to show that deep sea exploration is safe.

The billionaire adventurer hopes to rehabilitate the sector’s public image following the deaths of the five people onboard the Titan submersible last June which imploded.

The two person vessel dubbed Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer will be manned by Connor and Patrick Lahey, co-founder of Triton Submarines who will be making the sub.

Mr Lahey said he was close friends with Paul-Henri Nargeolet, one of the Titan passengers.

“Sometimes I wonder if I should have got more out in front of the story, because I was chomping at the bit,” Lahey told WSJ.

“But I was very emotional. It still baffles me beyond words that PH was onboard.”
