Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson was turned away from his local polling station after failing to bring acceptable photo ID.

Johnson reportedly showed up with an envelope that had his name and address written on it while attempting to cast his ballot in South Oxfordshire, where a police and crime commissioner for the Thames Valley was being selected.

New rules requiring photo ID to vote were introduced by Mr Johnson’s government in the Elections Act 2022.

Earlier on Thursday he posted on X saying: “The polls are now open. Vote Conservative today!”

Despite his blunder Johnson did return later with the necessary ID and was able to cast his vote.
