From saw cheeks to soaring ticket sales, Chris Rock may have had the last laugh as tickets sales for his upcoming tour have reportedly boomed since his altercation with Will Smith at the Oscars.

Rock felt the wrath of the “Fresh Prince”, being on the receiving end of a slap following a joke he made about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett-Smith hair loss at the 94th Academy awards.

Pinkett Smith has in the past spoken openly about her struggle with alopecia, a long-term chronic inflammatory condition which affects hair follicles and leads to hair loss.

What may have a been a low has brought along new highs with New York-based TickPick claiming to have sold more tickets to Rock’s tour overnight than they did in the past month combined.

Individual ticket prices also surged from $46 (£35) to $411 (£314) for the cheapest seats available as of Monday evening, a near 800% increase.

Following the global media frenzy, Smith issued an apology to Chris Rock saying he was “out of line” and that his actions were “not indicative of the man I want to be”.

“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive,” said Smith. “My behaviour at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.”

“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”

For Rock’s UK fans, the comic will make his way to London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds in May for his 38 date Ego Death tour.
