British musician, multi-instrumentalist, producer and DJ cktrl has announced the release of his forthcoming new EP ‘Yield’ and released the title track.

Subdued, tranquil and meditative ‘Yield’ is a minimalist piece of modal jazz recalling Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Simultaneously fusing elements from the traditions of classical and baroque music.  The new single is the first taste of its parent EP that promises to engineer change surrounding discourse pertaining to contemporary Black British music.

Speaking on the new single, cktrl said:

“This song gave me the basis of the project. It was the starting point of everything I wanted to explore. The process was more about listening than creating, as I had to find a grounding in order to know what I needed to strip away as the layers are what make the song emphasise a feeling”

The forthcoming new project is the follow up to last year’s ‘Zero’ which featured collaborations with esteemed contemporaries like the GRAMMY-nominated Mereba and anaiis. Upon the project’s release, it was met with a plethora of critical acclaim.
