David “Trugoy the Dove” Jolicoeur, one-third of the iconic rap group De La Soul, has passed at the age of 54.

A cause of death has not yet been revealed, however the rapper had discussed his diagnosis with congestive heart failure in recent years.

Trugoy formed De La Soul in 1988 alongside his high school friends, rappers Posdnuos and Maseo. The trio released their groundbreaking debut album 3 Feet High And Rising in 1989.

In 2006 the group collaborated with Gorillaz on the hit track “Feel Good Inc.” winning De La Soul their first Grammy.

De La Soul recently struck a deal that’ll finally allow their classic catalog to be played on major streaming platforms starting March 3rd.
