Elon Musk has alluded that he is prepared to charge all users to have access to his X, formerly Twitter, platform.

During a live-streamed conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday the Tesla CEO alluded to controversial plan for the social media platform.

The revelation came when Netanyahu asked Musk how X could prevent the use of bots in the amplification of anti-semitism.

Musk responded by saying that the company was “moving to having a small monthly payment for use of the X system” claiming it was “the only way I can think of to combat vast armies of bots,”

“Because a bot costs a fraction of a penny – call it a tenth of a penny – but if somebody even has to pay a few dollars, some minor amount, the effective cost of bots is very high,”

“And then you also have to get a new payment method every time you have a new bot.”

Currently X offers their premium subscription programme for £11 per month or £114.99 annually.

Users of the premium service receive a verified tick alongside the ability to edit tweets and post longer messages.
