After back to back defeats to start their 22/33 Premier League campaign Manchester United fans may finally have something to celebrate.

Eccentric billionaire Elon Musk has made the bold declaration that he intends to buy the Red Devils.

The Tesla founder tweeted: “Also, I’m buying Manchester United ur welcome” in the early hours of Wednesday August 16th.

Manchester United fans should probably take Musk’s word with the pinch of salt, with no real indication whether he planned to pursue a deal on top of his history of making irreverent tweets.

A cash injection from arguably the world’s richest man would certainly help as United look set to scramble needed last minute reinforcements following their 4-0 spanking to top flight minnows Brentford over the weekend.
