A Facebook seller probably thought he made the smart decision to meet a buyer outside a police station – but still ended up being robbed at gun point.

Not only did the unnamed victim lose his shoes when he encountered 22-year-old Devonta Burchett, but he also lost the contents of his pockets.

Burchett contacted the victim via Facebook and agreed to meet him outside CPD headquarters around 9 p.m. the same night to close the deal all whilst being on probation for a felony gun case, Assistant State’s Attorney John Gnilka said.

Burchett invited the victim to his car so his “brother” could try on the shoes. As the victim stood outside the passenger door, the car’s windows rolled down, and he saw three masked men inside the vehicle.

Following a struggle between one man in the the car and the victim for the shoe box, another revealed and aimed the firearm before the group fled with the stolen goods.

Fortunately for the victim the brazen robbery was recorded by CPD surveillance cameras. Police we’re able to match Burchett’s face to the profile picture on the Facebook account that contacted the victim confirmed that Burchett owns a car identical to the one the robbers used.

Arrested soon after Burchett was held without bail on the robbery charge as well as for violating the terms of probation in his gun case due back in court November 17th.
