A very special episode, being the first time Alan has gone to someone else’s house to film, Fatboy Slim is the next guest to feature on Alan Carr’s Life’s A Beach podcast.

With the two sat on the beachfront at Norman’s house whilst recording, they spoke about Norman’s new book ‘It Ain’t Over…Til The Fatboy Sings’ they discuss holidaying with The Chemical Brothers, Glastonbury, Brighton life and much more!

Some interview excerpts can be found below:

Weirdest thing that you’ve sampled:

The weirdest thing I’ve sampled is a sprinkler when I was in Ibiza. We got back from a night out and we were still sitting out by the pool and then the sprinklers came on and we were of a nature late at night and we just heard this sort of rhythm in the sprinklers and we started dancing to it.

We ended up recording it and using it as a musical instrument in the soundtrack that I did for the film about Ibiza.

Thoughts on Brighton and the i360:

The i360, I really love it. Everybody in Brighton is kind of divided. More people tend to dislike it than not, but I know I like it because Brighton has always been a place for eccentrics and something different. It’s so bright, and just has something completely out of character, completely futurist, where everything else is regency but it’s one of those.

I mean, if you think that the biggest tourist attraction and biggest iconic building in Brighton is the Royal Pavilion, basically a really tacky reproduction of the Taj Mahal in the middle of a seaside town. When that was first built, I bet everybody didn’t go but that’s a marvelous piece of art.

Holidayed with a famous person?

I’ve actually officially holidayed with The Chemical Brothers. We had this thing that the come down from Glastonbury was going to be so severe that by Tuesday we would want to kill ourselves, so we conspired that what we would do is we’d go straight from Glastonbury on to the holiday while we were still drunk. Then when we sobered up and the come down hit, we’d be sitting in Tuscany by a pool. And so we did it. It was brilliant.

I’ve been on holiday and saw Ian Wright once, our daughters are a similar age so while our daughters played, we chatted. He was lovely. That was a good accidental holiday with Ian.

Pre-gig ritual:

Before I go on stage I take my shoes off because I always DJ barefoot. I put on the Hawaiian shirt, which is my work uniform, and then my tour manager, who is also called Alan Carr, famously, he slaps me really hard across the face. And that’s the last bit as the intro starts. Oh, he slaps me really hard. And it just gets my adrenaline going. But it’s become quite a ritual, because people always try to catch the slap. It’s quite impressive. It reminds me that I’m not a 62 year old man anymore, I’m actually a 17 year old.

Would you ever leave Brighton:

I think only if I had to, only if you made me an offer I couldn’t refuse or had a gun to my head.
