Last night, legendary DJ and producer Norman Cook, better known as Fatboy Slim, marked the launch of his debut book It Ain’t Over… ’Til the Fatboy Sings (Rocket 88 Books), with an intimate Q&A event at W1 Curates, Oxford Street.

Hosted by BBC Radio 1’s Sarah Story, the conversation took guests on a journey through Fatboy Slim’s groundbreaking career – from his early days in Brighton’s club scene to the global success and unforgettable moments captured in the new book.

The event brought together media, fans, and friends to celebrate one of dance music’s most iconic figures, offering rare insight into the stories, images and memories that have defined his three-decade career.

Why he chose to do the book now:

“It’s 40 years this year that I quit my day job and joined the circus. I thought about having a big party but this seemed better.”

Meeting Paul McCartney at Top of the Pops:

“Always obsessed with pop music. One day we found ourselves on Top of the Pops, (Norman and Paul Heaton when in the Housemartins) and we were so excited. When we didn’t think that could be any more exciting, we couldn’t believe it because Paul McCartney was in the dressing room next to us. Then he came out and said hello and we couldn’t believe it. I think that was the most exciting day of my life.”

Meeting Madonna at The Hacienda:

“One day, Kermit from the crew called me and said that they were going to be at the Hacienda and I went to see them. When we got there, we were sharing a dressing room with this woman, who turned out to be Madonna.”

Writing for Peroxide Magazine:

“I called up Adam Ant and asked if I could interview him. He agreed and asked if I could do it the next day but I had to tell him that I had to go to school, because I was only 15 at the time. Luckily he agreed to do it the next weekend, and he did it. It was brilliant.”
