Five people have been arrested after a “serious racially aggravated assault” on a teenage girl outside a school.

In a viral video a lone 15-year-old Black girl, a pupil at Thomas Knyvett College, is shown being viciously attacked by a group of white girls in Ashford, Surrey on 6 February.

Surrey police said they were called to reports of a fight on the junction of Salcombe Road and Stanwell Road in Ashford at 14:30 GMT

Police confirmed that five people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted racially aggravated grievous bodily harm (GBH): three girls, two aged 11 and one 16-year-old, and two adults, a 43-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman. There’s also a sixth suspect wanted, a 15-year-old girl.

Inspector Maxine Cilia said: “I was shocked to see some of the video footage of this fight and the level of violence from young people outside one of our local schools.

“Every schoolchild should feel safe in the local community and not the target of any kind of violence as they leave school premises,”

“Surrey Police are now investigating this incident and gathering further evidence with the full co-operation of the school,”

“There will be extra patrols in this local area for reassurance and to enable local people to speak with officers.”

The video was received with public outcry on social media, catching to attention of actress Michaela Cole and artist Dave who called for members of staff who failed to intervene in the video to be sacked.
