Footballer Thomas Partey Changes Name To Yakubu After Marrying Muslim Girlfriend

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has announced that he will be changing his name to Yakubu following his conversion to Islam in March.

The 28-year-old broke the news during an interview with a local Ghanaian broadcaster, citing that his decision to convert to Islam was inspired by his Moroccan girlfriend.

“I have a girl I love, I know my side chicks will leave me but it’s no problem. I grew up with Muslims so at the end of the day it’s the same thing. I’m already married and my Muslim name is Yakubu.”

It is understood that the move is not a formal name change as the Premier League star will continue to wear Thomas on his shirt and being referred to as Partey when he plays for the Gunners.
