Jay Z, Mary J Blige & Fela Kuti Receive 2021 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Nominations

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2021 class nominations are in and it features an exciting bunch of artist. Notably rapper turned business mogul Jay Z, received his first ever nomination. He’s not the only legend in this class with Mary J Blige, Chaka Khan, Tina Turner and LL Cool J also receiving noms. The late Father of Afrobeat Fela Kuti also grabbed his first nomination almost 24 years after his passing.
Eligibility for this year’s ballot, hinged on nominee’s first single or album being released in 1995 or earlier. According to the Hall of Fame, this is the most racially diverse ballot since 1996, with nine of the 16 nominees being people of color.
“This remarkable ballot reflects the diversity and depth of the artists and music the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame celebrates,” Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Chairman John Sykes said in a statement. “These nominees have left an indelible impact on the sonic landscape of the world and influenced countless artists that have followed them.”
