Hawaii, Tokyo, Zanzibar ? No. Humans will look at Earth itself as the next great holiday destination according to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

The e-commerce titan turned galactic explorer recently suggested that in the future human beings will live in space and visit Earth akin to  “the way you visit Yellowstone National Park”.

Speaking at the Ignatius Forum in Washington DC, Bezos said: “Over centuries, many people will be born in space, it will be their first home.

“They will be born on these colonies, live on these colonies, then they’ll visit Earth the way you would visit, you know, Yellowstone National Park.”

These future people would live in giant floating cylinders that could house up to a million people. They would also be advanced enough to recreate Earth’s gravity and environment, with “rivers, forests and wildlife” and regular Terran weather.

In what seems to be a brewing interstellar rivalry between billionaires Bezos snuck in a dig at fellow space enthusiast Elon Musk.

“Even if you were to terraform Mars or do something very dramatic like that – which could be very, very challenging, by the way – even if you were to do that, that is, at most, a doubling of Earth,” explained Bezos.

“Then you’re going from 10 billion people to 20 billion people.”
