King Charles III Bank Note Designs Unveiled By Bank Of England
20 Dec 2022
The Bank of England unveiled its first bank notes featuring King Charles III on Tuesday.
Becoming king in September following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, Charles’ portrait will find it’s way onto the 10, 20 and 50 pound polymer bank notes entering into circulation from the middle of 2024.
Fifty pence coins bearing the image of King Charles III have already entered circulation via post offices across the country.
“This is a significant moment, as The King is only the second monarch to feature on our banknotes,” BoE Governor Andrew Bailey said in a statement.
Queen Elizabeth was the first and only monarch to appear on circulating Bank of England banknotes, starting in 1960.
The new notes will only be printed to replace worn notes or to meet increased demand, in order to minimise the environmental and financial impact of the change.
