Kneecap locked off Glastonbury’s West Holts area this afternoon, performing an electric set to an unprecedented number of people despite media controversy over the past weeks.

Kneecap member Mo Chara said “Glastonbury, I’m a free man” when the trio took to West Holts Stage to a sea of Palestine flags that could be seen in the crowd more than an hour before their set began, with the trio at times starting ‘Fuck Keir Starmer’ and ‘Free Palestine’ chants throughout their set; Jelani Blackman also came out during the set before finishing his appearance of calls of ‘Free Free’.

The set was not broadcast live on BBC, however will be available for streaming later. A BBC spokesperson said: “As the broadcast partner, the BBC is bringing audiences extensive music coverage from Glastonbury, with artists booked by the festival organisers. While the BBC doesn’t ban artists, our plans ensure that our programming meets our editorial guidelines. We don’t always live-stream every act from the main stages and look to make an on-demand version of Kneecap’s performance available on our digital platforms, alongside more than 90 other sets.”
