Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams are committing millions of pounds to one of the bids vying to become the new owners of Chelsea FC.
According to Sky News, seven time Formula One world champion Hamilton and 23 time grand slam champion Williams have invested into the consortium led by Sir Martin Broughton – Liverpool FC and British Airways chairman – with the pair pledging £10 million each.
The other candidates include Boston Celtics owner Steve Pagliuca and LA Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly,
The fourth option headed up by the Ricketts family is no longer in the running after withdrawing their bid.
“The Ricketts-Griffin-Gilbert group has decided, after careful consideration, not to submit a final bid for Chelsea FC,” a Ricketts family statement said.
“In the process of finalising the proposal, it became increasingly clear that certain issues could not be addressed given the unusual dynamics around the sales process,”
“We have great admiration for Chelsea and its fans and we wish the new owners well.”
