Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has been knighted in the New Year Honours list.
Hamilton, 35, equalled German Michael Schumacher’s championships record in November claiming his 7th F1 title. Some had doubt over whether he would be knighted given he lives in the tax haven of Monaco. Prime minister, Boris Johnson, was said to have personally intervened to ensure Hamilton would be recognised for his achievements.
Former Tottenham and Chelsea striker Jimmy Greaves and ex-Wolves midfielder Ron Flowers , were both made an MBE after becoming the last surviving members of the 1966 World Cup winning team.
Rugby league legend Rob Burrow was made an MBE for his services to rugby and his awareness campaign since being diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
