One of the biggest shows in his life for a number of reasons, Loyle Carner shone immensely bright in his Glastonbury Other Stage headline performance this (Friday) evening.

Having released his album ‘hopefully!’ last week, the set featured a perfect mixture of tracks from the new project, ‘hugo’, ‘Not Waving, But Drowning’ and ‘Yesterday’s Gone’. Performing a few warm-up shows in the run-up to the headline slot, this evening marked the fourth time he has sung live in a show, yet despite the huge audience and scale of the occasion, he was able to perform to his best.

Bringing out special guests Sampha to perform ‘Desoleil (Brilliant Corners)’ and Jorja Smith for ‘Loose Ends’, the set was textbook Loyle Carner – energy, emotion, vulnerability, whilst also offloading a level of rawness and authenticity which above anything else, simply makes others feel good.

Accompanied by some new members to his live band, including those who had been instrumental to the creative process and production of ‘hopefully’, Carner dedicated tracks to his son, daughter and partner, whilst also offering dialogue about his journey in the car to Glastonbury with his son, resonating with the audience and those at home.

An all-around unbelievable performance. Take a bow, LC.
