A delivery driver who needed skin grafts after being burned by a hot tea from Starbucks that spilt into his lap has been awarded $50 million in damages (£38.6 million).

Michael Garcia suffered third degree burms to his groin, genitals and inner thighs and now has life-changing disfigurement after collecting the drink at a California drive-through, acccording to his legal team.

The negligence lawsuit claimed that the Starbucks employee did not wedge the hot tea into the takeaway tray hard enough, consequently causing it to displace and spill.
