More Than 52,000 Mobile Phone Were Stolen In London In 2023

More than 52,000 mobile phones were made off with by thieves in London last year according to statisticians.
Some areas in the nations capital saw thefts increase by nearly 50% with criminals, often riding mopeds and e-bikes, dressed in all black targeting distracted victims on the street.
The City of Westminster, a tourists hotspot was the worst-affected borough. The area reported 18,863 incidents, a 47% increase from 12,836 the previous year.
Stolen phones often find their way onto the black market and in destinations including China, Dubai and in parts of Europe & Africa.
Officers in Croydon have increased their reliance on CCTV footage and deployed reinforced operations in robbery hotspots.
Chief Inspector James Weston said “We understand the impact that robbery has on victims—it’s invasive and frightening. Our teams are working tirelessly to deter and apprehend offenders to reassure the local community.”
