NETFLIX TESTING FEATURE TO CRACKDOWN ON PASSWORD SHARING

Netflix has started testing a feature that asks viewers to verify they share a household with the account holder, in an effort to clampdown on password sharing.

The company announced Thursday (March 11) that a small number of trialist Netflix users will start to receive a message asking them to confirm they live with the account owner by entering details from a text message or email sent to the owner.

“This test is designed to help ensure that people using Netflix accounts are authorized to do so,” a Netflix spokesperson said.

For now there is the option to delay the verification process, but the alert will pop up again at some point and eventually may not allow to continue streaming whilst unverified.

This news comes after the company announced an increase in their UK subscription prices earlier this year.
