Nigel Farage Bank Account Closed For Falling Below Wealth Limit
4 Jul 2023
Nigel Farage has had his account with Coutts closed after falling below the wealth limit of the prestigious bank.
The former leader of the UK Independence Party has claimed to have been black balled by the banking industry on the grounds that he is a “Politically Exposed Person” (PEP).
Farage said NatWest, who own Coutts, offered him a standard account only after he went public with his complaints last Thursday.
Farage again took to social media to defend himself saying in a video on his Twitter account: “They’re telling the press I don’t meet their wealth threshold. Well, they’ve never mentioned that before in the previous 10 years.”
According to the Coutts website, they require clients to have at least £1m in investments or borrowing – including a mortgage – or £3m in savings.
NatWest Group declined to comment on the matter.
