The Elizabeth line will finally open this month, Transport for London (TfL) has said.

The Abbey Wood to Paddington section will open to passengers on May 24th it was announced.

Trains will run every five minutes between 6:30am and 11:00pm, although a full timetable will not be in place until May 2023.

The line should massively boost transport capacity in London and south-east England, cutting journey times, and with a number of new stations and much longer, spacious trains.

The project is now however £4billion over budget, nearly four years late, one year away from opening in full and on its current schedule will not run on Sundays.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said the Elizabeth line will make London “safer, fairer, greener and more prosperous”.

He said: “Green public transport is the future, and the opening of the Elizabeth line is a landmark moment for our capital and our whole country, particularly in this special Platinum Jubilee year.”
